 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots.  Nawfia community suspends "Igu Aro" festival over increased gunmen attacks


The Nawfia community in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State has announced the suspension of the major Igbo cultural festival, “Igu Aro,” until further notice due to a rise in gunmen attacks.


According to a statement, this decision was made to prevent further loss of life, as the perpetrators of these acts continue to devise new ways to inflict harm on innocent residents of the town.


The statement, signed by the traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Highness Igwe Daniel Obelle, emphasised that the decision was reached after extensive consultations with stakeholders and the traditional council of the Nawfia kingdom.Obelle said 


“following the series of insecurities experienced between September 9th, 2024, 5th October, 2924 and the recently attack in December 7th, 2925 that tragically claimed four promising young men in our community, the Igwe in Council and the entire people of Nawfia has suspended the most notable cultural festival, “Igu Aro* in the area for the year 2026 to mourn our brothers who were murdered in these incidences"


“This decision to suspend the cultural festival is to protect the lives and properties of Nawfia residents irrespective of tribe, ethnic, and religious affiliations. The increase gunmen attacks in my community without any reported arrest of the evil-doers"


“Nawfia people, both at home and abroad, are very sad about what is happening in our community"


“We have experience this insecurities since September 9th, 2024 to date without any arrest of the perpetrators. This is worrisome, but we doing our best to restore confidence in our people"


“We are working tirelessly with the Police and DSS to ensure that those attacking our peaceful community are brought to book.”


The festival was initially scheduled to be held on January 2nd, 2026.
