AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week. Shock as 14-year-old boy allegedly takes the life of woman who raised him after she revealed she wasn’t his biological mother

A disturbing incident has left residents of Iju Ishaga in shock after a 14-year-old boy, identified as Emma Chris Okogbe, reportedly confessed to taking the life of the woman who raised him from infancy.

During questioning, the teenager explained that he recently returned from school in Delta State when a friend claimed the woman who raised him was not his real mother. The woman—who had trained him since he was a year old—reportedly confronted the boy spreading the rumour, who offered no concrete answers about his claims.

According to the boy, he later asked his guardian again, and she eventually confirmed she wasn’t his biological mother and told him he could look for his real parents when he was ready.

Investigators say the boy grew upset over the revelation, days later, he pushed her off the stairs and she was later confirmed dead and taken to the mortuary.

Despite raising him, sponsoring his education, and caring for him for years, the teenager admitted he acted out of anger over the discovery.

When asked what he expects from the government, he said he “doesn’t know” with no remorse on his face.
