 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Two Mozambican Suspects Arrested for Fatal Ivory Park Police Attack


Two Mozambican nationals have been arrested in connection with the fatal attack on two police officers in Ivory Park, Tembisa.


According to police, information was received and followed up, leading to the tracing of the suspects. The first suspect, an 18-year-old, was arrested in Tembisa. He was found with a wound on the left side of his neck, which he allegedly sustained after being shot by his associates on the same day the officers were attacked.


The second suspect, aged 28, was traced and arrested in Mamelodi East. Police recovered several stolen items in his possession, including:

 • A police-issued pistol

 • One R5 rifle magazine

 • Thirteen rounds of state-issued rifle ammunition


Both suspects are expected to face charges relating to the murder of the two officers and possession of stolen state property. The investigation is ongoing.
