 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Uche Ekwunife Rejoices with Senator Chris Ngige over Son’s Traditional Marriage Ceremony.


Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON, has conveyed warm congratulations to Senator Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige, the immediate past Minister of Labour and Productivity, on the joyous occasion of the traditional marriage ceremony of his son.


The goodwill message followed an official invitation from Senator Ngige to the traditional wedding of his son, Raphael Chukwunyelugo Ngige, and his bride, Ginikachukwu Chetanna.


The colourful ceremony held on Saturday, 27th December, 2025, at the Orabike Central School Ground, Urukpaleke/Uruogbo, along Enugwu Bypass at Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu, Anambra State.


Describing the event as a moment of joy, thanksgiving, and cultural pride, Senator Ekwunife wished the couple a peaceful, fruitful, and God-guided marital journey.


She further prayed for continued blessings upon the Ngige family, noting that such family celebrations reinforce cherished cultural values and strengthen societal bonds.


The well-attended ceremony drew the presence of the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, alongside traditional rulers, political leaders, notable personalities, and well-wishers from within and outside the state.
