 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Actor Kiefer Sutherland arrested over alleged altercation with ride-share driver

Actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested early Monday in Los Angeles following an alleged altercation with a ride-hail driver, authorities confirmed. The 59-year-old Emmy winner was taken into custody just after midnight near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, south of the Hollywood Hills.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Sutherland reportedly entered the ride-hail vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and made criminal threats. He was booked on suspicion of felony criminal threats and later released on a $50,000 bond. No injuries requiring medical attention were reported. His first court appearance is set for Feb. 2.
Sutherland is best known for his role as Jack Bauer on the TV series 24 and has appeared in films including Melancholia, Tinsel Town, The Lost Boys, and Young Guns. He also starred in Rob Reiner’s Stand by Me and A Few Good Men. He is the son of the late actor Donald Sutherland, who passed away in June 2024.
