 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. She also shared updates on her ongoing projects, including a new Broadway musical and her Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville.  African Union Praises Uganda's Elections


The African Union Commission has commended the conduct of Uganda's recent presidential elections and congratulated President Yoweri Kaguta Musevenic on his re-election, amid ongoing efforts to strengthen democracy across the continent.


In a statement released the Chairperson of the African Union,  Mahmoud Ali Youssouf hailed the polls held on January 15, 2026, as a positive step forward. 


Museveni secured a commanding 71.61% of the votes, extending his long tenure as Uganda's leader


Youssouf also expressed "sincere appreciation" to Goodluck Jonathan, the former president of Nigeria, for his "sterling leadership" of the joint election observation mission organized by the African Union, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).


The AU chairperson reiterated the commission's commitment to supporting democracy and effective governance in Africa. 


He applauded the Ugandan people for their dedication to "consolidating democratic gains, peace, security, and development."
