Tanzania closes Nduta camp housing thousands of Burundi refugees Tanzania has closed a camp housing thousands of Burundian refugees and repatriated all but a handful, activists and the United Nations said. Burundian refugees have complained in recent months of being forcibly evicted from the Nduta camp in northwestern Tanzania, following a deal between the governments in Dar Es Salaam and Bujumbura to repatriate around 100,000 of them by June. As of late 2025, there were an estimated 142,000 Burundian refugees housed in two Tanzanian camps - Nduta and Nyarugusu, according to the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR). "The approximately 3,000 refugees who remained in the (Nduta) camp were forcibly loaded onto vehicles to be sent back to Burundi on Thursday," the Coalition for Human Rights/Living in Refugee Camps (CDH/VICAR) said, AFP reported.  APC Governors Call for Transparent Congresses and Convention Ahead of Party Activities

The Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged transparent, consistent, and accountable management of the party’s upcoming ward, local government, state, zonal congresses, and national convention.

The call was made by the Forum’s Chairman and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, while presenting a communiqué at the end of a high-level meeting held Wednesday at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja. The session included members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), led by National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

Governor Uzodimma emphasized that these standards must be applied uniformly across all states, including those where the APC currently has no governors. He stressed that transparency, consistency, and accountability at every stage are essential to building trust and credibility within the party.

“The PGF reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to party unity and internal harmony,” Uzodimma stated. He highlighted responsible leadership, clear communication, and collective discipline as key to bolstering public confidence in the APC’s democratic processes.

The Forum also reiterated its dedication to deepening internal democracy, fortifying party structures, and pursuing reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness nationwide.

During the meeting, the governors received a detailed briefing from the APC National Chairman on the ongoing national e-registration and digital membership update exercise. Uzodimma noted that the initiative has achieved significant growth, with notable increases in youth participation and the successful integration of National Identity Number (NIN) verification.

“This digital approach will enhance data-driven planning, provide better demographic insights, and strengthen grassroots engagement across communities,” he added.

The PGF formally endorsed the timetable and institutional framework approved by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for the forthcoming congresses and the national convention. Uzodimma commended the leadership of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and the NWC for effectively guiding the process.

Additionally, the Forum announced a series of strategic engagements and state visits to reinforce grassroots structures and promote party cohesion. The visits are scheduled to commence in Taraba State on January 31.

The meeting also marked the formal welcome of the governors of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, and Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, into the PGF following their recent defection to the APC.

Reaffirming their support for national leadership, the governors expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s stewardship and pledged continued partnership to ensure good governance at all levels, advance national development, and consolidate democracy.
