Author Colleen Hoover announces she is receiving cancer treatment

Bestselling author Colleen Hoover has shared that she is undergoing cancer treatment, posting an update on Instagram earlier this week.

Hoover, known for novels such as It Ends With Us and Verity, shared a photo Monday of herself in a hospital gown with the caption, “Second to last day of radiation!” She added praise for her care team, writing, “I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology, but they’ve been great. Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them.”

While Hoover has not specified the type of cancer, she previously explained in a Facebook post that genetic testing indicated the cancer was not linked to family history, HPV, or hormonal factors. She attributed the diagnosis to environmental or lifestyle factors, citing stress, poor diet, and lack of exercise. “I’m happy and grateful to be alive, but I hate vegetables. I hate when I have to get off the couch. I hate sweating,” she wrote, adding with humor that if she’s seen at the gym or eating healthy, she’s probably in a bad mood.

The 45-year-old author is among the most successful writers of the past decade, with multiple bestsellers and a large social media following. She initially disclosed her diagnosis in December on a private fan page, noting that she delayed addressing recurring health issues while filming the movie adaptation of her book Reminders of Him. Hoover said the cancer was removed and required radiation, but not chemotherapy.

In October, Hoover announced she would miss promotional events for the film adaptation of her novel Regretting You due to an “unavoidable surgery” that prevented travel. Despite these challenges, she remains professionally active, releasing her latest thriller, Woman Down, which follows an author retreating to a secluded cabin who is confronted with alarming news from a detective.

Several of Hoover’s other books are also being adapted for film, including Reminders of Him and Verity, the latter starring Anne Hathaway.
