26th January, 2026

The Benue State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Michael Oglegba, was yesterday detained at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, over allegations of failing to explain why a car dealer is yet to be paid for supplying vehicles to the state House of Assembly.

The dealer reportedly supplied seven official cars for Assembly members, a Hilux for the Clerk, and a bus for the Assembly. Governor Hyacinth Alia had approved ₦1.2 billion for the purchases and directed the Finance Commissioner to ensure prompt payment.

Governor Alia expressed shock that the transaction has not been concluded, saying, “Something is not adding up. Someone is lying and we will know who very soon.”

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
