AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk.  Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert celebrate birth of their first child

Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert Hough have welcomed their first child together.

The “Dancing with the Stars” judge and his wife celebrated the birth of a baby girl on Dec. 29. They shared the news Monday on Instagram, revealing her name and posting a black-and-white photo of their hands wrapped around the tiny feet of their daughter.

“Everley Capri Hough 🤍,” the post read. “Every step of our lives has led us to you. Our hearts have been cracked wide open, and our world is forever changed.”

Derek’s sister, Julianne Hough, also shared her excitement on Instagram, writing, “Welcome to the world, sweet angel Everley.”

The couple first announced they were expecting in July 2025 with a video on Instagram. They were married in 2023 and expressed their amazement at the new chapter in their lives, writing at the time, “We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small ♥️.”

The arrival of Everley comes two years after Erbert underwent an emergency craniectomy following a cranial hematoma diagnosis. She reflected last month on the intense journey of recovery, sharing that the experience had given her a “second chance at life” and allowed her to rediscover herself. “It was a whirlwind to say the least… But I’m truly grateful for it all, and so incredibly proud of myself and my body for everything it has endured. What a miracle it is that two years ago I was fighting for my life… and now, here I am creating life,” she wrote.
