Former Abia Governor Ikpeazu Praises Deputy Speaker Kalu for Loyalty During Challenging Tenure

Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has highlighted the Nigerian Army's Operation Python Dance, the #EndSARS protests, and the COVID-19 pandemic as among the most difficult challenges he faced during his eight-year administration.

Ikpeazu made the remarks on Friday during a New Year courtesy visit by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, to his country home in Umuobiakwa, Obingwa Local Government Area.

Expressing gratitude for Kalu's unwavering support, Ikpeazu described the Deputy Speaker as a steadfast brother and ally who stood by him through turbulent times without expecting anything in return.

"We had too many rough patches during my time as governor. We experienced Operation Python Dance, we experienced COVID-19, we experienced #EndSARS, and through all those rough patches, he stood by me," Ikpeazu said. "He was always there, and for that, I owe him a duty to support and encourage him."

The former governor urged Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, to remain humble while pursuing the right path, asserting that divine intervention has positioned him as a leader for the liberation of Abia State and the broader Igbo nation.

"God has raised you at a time like this for the liberation of not only Abia State but also for the entire Igbo nation that seems to be in a quandary," Ikpeazu added.

Earlier, Kalu congratulated Ikpeazu on his recent nomination as an ambassador-designate by President Bola Tinubu, describing the visit as a traditional New Year homage to a respected leader and in-law.

Kalu also presented Ikpeazu with a brochure detailing his legislative achievements in the National Assembly over the past two years.
