 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Former NFL player Sam Beal has been missing for seven months

 Former NFL player Sam Beal has been missing for seven months, federal authorities confirmed. Beal, who played cornerback for the New York Giants, was last seen near Virginia Beach, Virginia, on July 12, 2025. He was 28 at the time and would now be 29.

According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, Beal’s girlfriend was the last person to see him. She said he borrowed her car to go to work, but later called to say he was in Virginia Beach and on his way home. Beal has not been heard from or seen since that call. Officials noted that he likely brought only his clothes, extra shoes, and a wallet containing his credit card and driver’s license. When a family member recovered the vehicle in Virginia Beach, Beal’s shoes and socks were found inside, along with sand.

His sister, Essence Zhane, shared a Facebook post on Jan. 12, urging anyone with information to come forward. She included a photo of a parking ticket from a Virginia Beach beachfront lot, timestamped just before 6 p.m. on July 13. “Tomorrow marks seven months since we last heard from or saw my brother,” she wrote. “We’ve done everything we could on our end to piece things together, and at this point, we’re in desperate need of support on all ends.”

Beal was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round of the 2018 supplemental draft and appeared in six games for the team. He opted out of the 2020 NFL season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, effectively ending his professional football career.

Before joining the NFL, Beal played three seasons for Western Michigan University, studying sports medicine. His legal history includes a 2020 Ohio traffic stop in which he was charged with improperly handling firearms in a vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and marijuana possession. He later pleaded guilty to the weapons charges and was placed on probation for a year.
