 Again, Gov Diri Tasks Traditional Rulers To Maintain Peace, Security At King Awala's Coronation  Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has again urged traditional rulers to remain focused on the maintenance of peace, security and stability in their various domains as part of their contribution towards the development of the state. Governor Diri made the call at the weekend during the coronation ceremony ofHis Royal Majesty King Victor Awala, Ebeni-Ibe the Eighth (VIII) of Atissa Kingdom in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, at the Bishop Dimieari Grammar School, Yenagoa, the state capital. Represented by his deputy, Dr Peter Akpe, the Bayelsa Chief Executive acknowledged the critical role traditional rulers play in society as the custodians of culture and tradition, stressing that his administration will continue to hold them in high esteem.  GUNMEN ABDUCT KWARA MONARCH, SON IN NEW YEAR’S EVE PALACE RAID

Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have abducted the monarch of Aafin Community, Oba S.Y. Olaonipekun, and one of his sons, Olaolu, a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, during a late-night attack on the royal palace in Kwara State.


The incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2026, in Aafin Ile-Ere, Ile-Ire district of Ifelodun Local Government Area. Witnesses said the assailants stormed the palace, firing sporadically to cause panic before forcing their way inside.


During the attack, the Olori, Mrs. Felicia Olaonipekun, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm but escaped abduction. She was later rushed to a hospital, where she is receiving treatment.


An eyewitness told Benue Info-pedia that the attackers appeared to have deliberately targeted the palace, overpowering the community’s two-man night vigilante team. At the time of the raid, no fewer than 10 family members and visitors were said to be inside the palace.


The abduction has further heightened security concerns in Kwara South, coming just weeks after the Ojibara of Bayagan Ile, Oba Kamilu Salami, regained freedom following the payment of a hefty ransom by members of his community.


Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
