 Two former governors of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, and Chief Emeka Ihedioha, led other party chieftains on Tuesday, to raise over ₦200million for the Imo state chapter of the African Democratic Party (ADC).

The donations made by members of the party were for the procurement of vehicles and for the running costs of the party in the state.

Ihedioha, in his remarks, appealed to ADC members in the state to rally financial, human, and all necessary support for the success of the party in Imo State.

Each of the 27 local government areas announced donations that ranged from ₦5million and ₦10million, even as private individuals announced donations to support their different areas.

Ihedioha said, "I appeal to you all to take the party down to the 305 wards of the state. Please support the party with your money and make it strong like we have done in other places".

Meanwhile, former governor Achike Udenwa has warned that the ADC will leave nothing to chance in its quest to take over from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

According to him, irrespective of how strong and rooted the APC was in Imo State and Nigeria, the ADC is set to take over.

He said;

"No matter how deep rooted the party in power in government is, we, the ADC shall uproot them because the people know us, they love us, they will support and vote for us.

"Soon, everybody will know what we can do. You will see that soon, there will be quite an impression. It is today the leading opposition party in Imo State. We have started very well".

The former governor who described political parties as quasi cults, said ADC members must unite to wrestle power from APC, and appealed to members to shun competition and grow the party to greatness.

Earlier, the state chairman of ADC, Prof James Okoroma said the party was a divine intervention in the political space and called for support for the party.

The meeting was attended by several stakeholders including former deputy governor, Engr Gerald Irona; former members of Labour Party; Chief Paul Mbadiwe (second son of elder statesman, Chief K.O.K Mbadiwe); former commissioner, Barr Ngozi Ngoku; and several others political big wigs who decamped to the ADC.
