AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  John Mellencamp says daughter Teddi is 'suffering' amid stage 4 cancer fight

John Mellencamp revealed that his daughter, Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave, is “suffering” while battling stage 4 cancer. He shared the update during an appearance on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast on Wednesday, Jan. 14, describing his 44-year-old daughter and former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star as “really sick.”

“She’s got cancer in the brain, and she’s suffering right now,” Mellencamp said. Teddi was diagnosed with melanoma, a form of skin cancer, in 2022. Last year, she revealed that the cancer had spread to her lungs and brain. Despite her father’s update, Teddi has continued to provide updates about her condition and treatment on social media, including her “Two T’s in a Pod” podcast. In an October 2025 episode, she noted that there was “no detectable cancer,” though she remained on immunotherapy for another year. She has also shared personal insights from her journey, encouraging others to stay vigilant about skin checks and emphasizing the importance of support and openness while coping with serious illness.

Melanoma, the deadliest and most aggressive form of skin cancer, can spread quickly to other organs. While it accounts for only about 1% of all skin cancers, it causes the majority of skin cancer-related deaths. Early detection is critical, particularly for people with fair skin, light-colored hair, blue eyes, a family history of skin cancer, or a history of significant sun exposure.
