Flags honoring Danish troops restored at US embassy after public backlash     The removal of flags honoring Danish soldiers who were killed while serving in Afghanistan has sparked widespread anger in Denmark after staff at the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen took them down ahead of a planned silent march honoring veterans. The flags, which had been placed in flower boxes outside the embassy and bore the names of fallen Danish troops, were removed days before a Jan. 31 demonstration intended to show solidarity with veterans and commemorate their sacrifices. The timing intensified public backlash, particularly following recent remarks by President Donald Trump that appeared to minimize the role played by NATO allies during the war in Afghanistan.  Kaduna Governor’s Aide, Rachael Averik, Confirms Release Of Abducted Mother, Niece

Rachael Averik, Special Assistant on Political Affairs to Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has confirmed the release of her mother and niece who were recently abducted by gunmen in Southern Kaduna.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Averik family on Thursday, Rachael disclosed that the victims regained their freedom after a ransom was paid and are currently receiving medical attention.

She expressed deep gratitude to family members, friends, colleagues, pastors, and well-wishers for their prayers and support during what she described as an extremely difficult period.

According to the statement, the abduction occurred while the family was mourning the death of her elder brother, Kefas Habila Averik, who was killed on December 31, 2025, during a late-night attack at his residence in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Averik described her brother’s death as devastating, noting that he was brutally murdered by gunmen who forced their way into his room and shot him at close range while his wife and child were present in the house.

She said the family is still grieving the loss but remains thankful for the safe return of her mother and niece.

“The loss of my elder brother has been painful, but we thank God for the fulfillment of His promise as my mother and niece are now back home and receiving treatment,” the statement read.
