Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported.  LASG SUPPORTS ANOTHER 250 INDIGENT RESIDENTS WITH FINANCIAL AIDS

In its ongoing efforts to further enhance public confidence in the government’s ability to deliver on promises and services, the Lagos State Government, through the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, has distributed cheques to another 250 beneficiaries of the Eko Cares Financial Assistance Programme.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held recently at the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Alausa-Ikeja, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative & Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Tajudeen, stated that the initiative, which is part of the programme of the Office, is designed to put smiles on the faces of indigent residents of Lagos and enable them to experience the true dividends of democracy.

While emphasising that the initiative was established to improve the standard of living of vulnerable Lagosians, he conveyed the goodwill of Mr. Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Mr. Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, to the beneficiaries,

Dr. Afolabi reiterated that the current administration in Lagos State remains dedicated to the welfare and well-being of Lagosians, disclosing that 400 beneficiaries received their cheques for financial support last week, while an additional 250 beneficiaries will receive theirs at the ceremony.

He advised beneficiaries to utilise the funds judiciously for productive ventures capable of yielding long-term benefits, cautioning against spending the support on non-essential needs.

The Special Adviser also encouraged beneficiaries to enrol in the Ilera-Eko Health Insurance Scheme under the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), emphasising the administration’s commitment to providing affordable and accessible healthcare for all residents.

Before the presentation of the cheques to the beneficiaries, the beneficiaries were sensitised on various government policies and programmes of the Office of Political, Legislative & Civic Engagement, aimed at deepening civic awareness and strengthening public participation in governance.

Earlier, while welcoming the beneficiaries, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Engr. Sholabomi Shasore, advised them to pay their cheques into their respective banks immediately so as to receive the financial aid on time and use it to address their immediate financial needs.
