 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Mr Ibu's ex-manager urges Enugu government to place the late actor's children on scholarship

 


Ex-manager of late Nollywood actor John Okafor(Mr Ibu), Mr. Dominic Nwuzor, has today, Monday 19th January 2026, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria Abuja, appealed to the Enugu State government to provide scholarships for the late actor’s children. 


Nwuzor reportedly managed late Jon Okafor for more than two decades before his passing in March 2024.


He urged the state government to consider the children of the late actor in its effort to bolster education through targeted scholarships across the state.


Nwuzor said;

"We have appealed for scholarship opportunities for the children, and will continue to do so, so that something can be done.


"His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, is a leader with a large heart and does not take lightly the education of the people, especially the vulnerable ones.


"We hope he will consider offering scholarships to the offspring of the man who used his talent to make the state proud across Africa and beyond".
