The Senate and House of Representatives Committees on the North-West Development Commission (NWDC), in collaboration with the Commission, will convene a one-day North-West Stakeholders’ Development Summit on Jan.31, in Kaduna State.

This is contained in a statement co-signed by the Senate Committee Chairman on NWDC, Sen. Babangida Hussaini and House Committee Chairman on NWDC, Rep. Sulaiman Abubakar respectively in Abuja on Thursday.

The summit, themed “Advancing a Coordinated Regional Development Agenda for North-West Nigeria,” will take place at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Conference Centre, Murtala Muhammad Square, Kaduna at 9:00 am.

According to the two  Chairmen, the summit is designed to bring together key stakeholders from across the seven North-West states to jointly reflect on the region’s development challenges and align priorities for sustainable growth.

“The North-West faces complex and interconnected challenges ranging from insecurity and infrastructure gaps to youth unemployment and social development deficits.

"These issues cannot be addressed in silos. This summit provides a platform for honest dialogue, shared ownership, and coordinated action,” the Chairman said.

Participants at the summit include the North-West Governors Forum, Federal and State Government officials, members of the National Assembly, Traditional and Religious leaders, Development Partners, and Private Sector players.

Others include Non-Governmental Organisations, Civil Society Organisations, Academia, Youth and Women groups, and representatives of the media.

The summit will feature plenary sessions, technical discussions, and sector-focused engagements aimed at strengthening collaboration, improving policy coherence, and supporting the effective implementation of the Commission’s mandate across the region.

The Senate and House of Representatives Committees noted that outcomes from the summit would help guide the North-West Development Commission’s programmes and interventions.

The Committee Chairmen stated that it would also foster stronger partnerships among stakeholders committed to the region's development.
