NEW YEAR TRAGEDY IN UYO, YOUNG WOMAN FOUND DEAD AFTER VISITING FRIEND

8th January, 2026

A young woman has been found dead in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, after she reportedly went out on New Year’s Eve to visit a friend and never returned home.

Benue Info-pedia gathered that the deceased left her residence on December 31 to see a young man but later became unreachable on her mobile phone, raising concerns among family members. Her lifeless body was discovered on January 1 in the Nassarawa area of Itam, Uyo, with suspected bullet wounds on her chest.

Sources disclosed that the young man she was said to have visited has been arrested by security operatives in connection with the incident. However, he reportedly denied responsibility for her death, claiming that she left his house to meet someone she referred to as her sister, with whom she intended to return home.

As of the time of filing this report, the family of the deceased was said to be confused and devastated, unsure of who to hold responsible, as investigations into the tragic incident continue.

The development has sparked outrage and emotional reactions on social media, with many Nigerians describing the incident as a heartbreaking way to begin the new year and urging security agencies to ensure that justice is served.
