 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Noah Wyle recently spoke about reconnecting with his longtime friend and former ER costar George Clooney. 

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the 2026 AARP Movies for Grownups Awards in Los Angeles on January 10, the 54-year-old actor shared that he and Clooney, 64, catch up whenever their busy schedules allow, picking up conversations seamlessly from where they left off.


Wyle described Clooney as a meaningful "touchstone figure" in his life, someone who appears at important moments. At the event, the two presented awards to each other: Wyle honored Clooney for Best Actor in a film for his role in Jay Kelly, while Clooney presented Wyle with the equivalent honor in the TV category for his performance in The Pitt, which also won for Best TV Series or Limited Series.


The reunion highlighted their mutual admiration and the strong connection formed during their time on the iconic medical drama ER, which aired from 1994 to 2009. Wyle has credited Clooney with teaching him valuable lessons in kindness, leadership, and professionalism that he continues to apply in his career.  Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
