One killed, 14 injured in explosion at Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, local media say

At least one person was killed and 14 others injured in an explosion on Saturday in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, officials reported, though the cause of the blast remains unclear. Local authorities said the incident is under investigation, but no further details were immediately provided.

Semi-official Iranian media dismissed social media claims that the blast targeted a Revolutionary Guard navy commander as “completely false.” Separately, a gas explosion in Ahvaz, near the Iraqi border, killed four people, according to Iranian state media, though additional details were not available. Israeli officials denied any involvement in the Bandar Abbas incident. The explosion comes amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s protests and nuclear program. Bandar Abbas, which hosts Iran’s largest container port along the strategic Strait of Hormuz, was previously the site of a deadly blast in April that killed dozens and injured over 1,000. Nationwide protests in Iran have left thousands dead, including hundreds of security personnel, according to Iranian officials.
