 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  “Our musicians are worshipped, but nobody hypes Nollywood” — actor Gideon Okeke speaks out


Actor Gideon Okeke has shared a passionate video calling out what he described as the imbalance in how Nigerian creatives support each other, especially between the music and film industries.


In the video, Gideon questioned why Nigerian musicians are heavily celebrated, idolised, and promoted globally, while Nollywood actors, actresses, and filmmakers rarely get the same public backing from their counterparts in music.


He pointed out that while Nigerian artists proudly embrace labels like “big three” and “big five,” very few of them openly recommend or hype Nigerian films, actors, or producers, even as platforms like Netflix expose Nollywood to global audiences.


Gideon referenced how global figures like former U.S. President Barack Obama publicly promote music they enjoy and wondered what impact it would have if Nigerian music stars did the same for Nollywood.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”. He said: “Our orders for four attack helicopters from the United States of America will take some time to arrive.
