AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Peter Obi's decision to join ADC is not out of Political desperation but motivated by a genuine commitment to building a better Nigeria rather than a mere quest for power.- Ibrahim Abdulkarim

An entrepreneur and staunch supporter of Mr. Peter Obi, Ibrahim Abdulkarim, has said that the former Anambra State governor’s decision to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was not taken lightly or out of political desperation.

According to Abdulkarim, Peter Obi did not “just wake up and join ADC like many politicians do,” but rather embarked on wide consultations with his associates, Obidients, and stakeholders across the country before taking the step. He noted that the process was open, inclusive, and people-driven, reflecting Obi’s respect for collective decision-making.

He further stated that Peter Obi has been actively involved in coalition-building efforts for over 20 months, right from the onset, stressing that his participation is motivated by a genuine commitment to building a better Nigeria rather than a mere quest for power.

Abdulkarim emphasized that Obi’s political journey is guided by a clear purpose: to bring positive change, move the country forward, and alleviate the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.

Describing him as a proven wealth creator and prudent manager of resources, Abdulkarim added that Peter Obi is a good listener who understands the pains of the masses.

“This is the kind of leadership Nigeria needs transparent, people-oriented, and focused on service rather than self-interest,” he said.
