Woman dies after riding Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster at Universal Studios, state report finds
A 70-year-old woman died last November after riding the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, according to a state report. The woman became unresponsive while on the indoor ride on Nov. 25 and later died at a nearby hospital. Her identity was not released.
The incident was included in a quarterly theme park injury report from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which noted that the information reflects only what was available at the time and did not offer details on what caused the medical emergency. Since opening in 2004, the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster has been linked to 21 reported medical incidents, ranging from nausea and dizziness to more serious issues, including a seizure and a vertebra fracture. It remains unclear whether any pre-existing conditions contributed to the woman’s death.
Theme park ride-related deaths, while uncommon, have occurred in recent months. In October, a woman in her 60s died after riding the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland in California, and in September, a 32-year-old man died after riding the Stardust Racers coaster at Universal’s Epic Universe in Florida.
