 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Zangon Kataf Council Announces Death Of Former Chairman, Hon. Francis Sani Zimbo


The Zangon Kataf Local Government Council has announced the death of Hon. Francis Sani Amgwa, popularly known as Zimbo, the immediate past Chairman of the Council and Special Adviser to the Kaduna State Governor on Industrial Training.


Zimbo reportedly passed away after a period of illness. 


Until his death, he served as a key aide to the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, contributing to policies and initiatives in the area of industrial training and human capital development.


During his tenure as Chairman of Zangon Kataf Local Government, Hon. Amgwa was widely credited with driving developmental initiatives, strengthening community relations, and promoting peace across the various communities within the local government area. 


He was known for his grassroots engagement, political commitment, and dedication to public service.


Described as a bridge-builder and a leader deeply connected to the people, Hon. Amgwa earned widespread respect for his passion for empowerment and his ability to relate with ordinary citizens. 


Many community members and political associates have described his passing as a significant loss to Zangon Kataf Local Government, Southern Kaduna, and Kaduna State at large.


The Council extended its condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, political associates, and the government and people of Kaduna State.


Funeral arrangements, according to the Council, will be announced at a later date.


Hon. Francis Sani Amgwa is survived by family members and leaves behind a legacy of service and commitment to community development.
