A BOXING COACH WHO ONCE PURSUED A CAREER IN TELEVISION HAS BEEN JAILED FOR 16 YEARS AFTER LURING A STRANGER INTO HIS HOME AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTING HER.(PHOTO).

A boxing coach who once pursued a career in television has been jailed for 16 years after luring a stranger into his home and sexually assaulting her.

Daniel Jones, 47, was sentenced to 16 years in prison, with a further eight years on extended licence, following a serious sexual offence that took place in July last year. The court heard how Jones tricked a woman into entering his home under the false pretence of asking for help with his injured dog. Once inside, he sexually assaulted her.

In a further disturbing development, Jones also trapped a female police officer in his living room when she attended the property to rescue the victim. The officer had responded to the emergency situation, only to find herself temporarily confined by Jones during the ordeal.

Jones had been known locally for running a boxing gym and training business. However, it has now emerged that in the years leading up to the Covid-19 pandemic, he had also attempted to establish himself as an actor.

He appeared as an extra in episodes of the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks and the ITV crime drama Paranoid. On social media and in personal conversations, Jones reportedly described himself as someone well-suited to playing villainous characters.

Prosecutors outlined how Jones carefully manipulated the situation to isolate his victim, exploiting her goodwill by fabricating a story about an injured animal in need of assistance. The court heard that his actions were deliberate and predatory.

In sentencing, the judge highlighted the serious psychological harm caused to the victim and the bravery of the responding officer. The extended licence period means Jones will remain under strict supervision for eight years following his release from custody.

The case has shocked the local community, where Jones had built a reputation as a fitness coach and boxing trainer. His conviction marks the end of both his coaching business and any aspirations he may have had within the television industry.
