Clintons agree to testify in House investigation into Epstein

Bill and Hillary Clinton have agreed to testify before the House Oversight Committee in its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, ending a months-long standoff with the panel’s Republican chairman, James Comer. The move comes just days before the House was expected to vote on holding the Clintons in criminal contempt of Congress.

The Clintons had previously resisted subpoenas, calling them legally unenforceable and accusing Comer of using the investigation as a political attack. But after some Democrats on the committee joined Republicans in recommending contempt charges, the couple agreed to comply. Attorneys for the Clintons confirmed Monday that they would appear for depositions on mutually agreed-upon dates and asked that the House cancel the scheduled contempt vote.

Under the agreement, Bill Clinton’s testimony will have no time limit and will cover all topics the committee deems relevant, including his personal relationship with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, as well as any potential efforts to influence reporting on Epstein. Hillary Clinton, who has said she never met Epstein, had initially proposed submitting a sworn statement instead of testifying, but agreed to appear if required.

Comer rejected earlier offers from the Clintons’ team that sought limits on testimony duration and scope. The committee plans to conduct the interviews in New York, where the Clintons reside.

Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s private jet multiple times in the early 2000s but has maintained that he cut ties with Epstein decades ago and never visited his private island.

The agreement marks the end of a contentious negotiation that saw some House Democrats siding with Republicans in supporting contempt actions. The decision to comply comes after the Clintons had vowed to fight what they called an unfair investigation. Committee members now plan to schedule the depositions in the coming weeks.
