El-Rufai: You Have Acted On The Yearnings Of The Downtrodden, Kaduna Citizens Tell EFCC, ICPC, DSS

The Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) for what it described as their courage and professionalism in holding the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, accountable for his eight years in office.

The group said the agencies had acted on the yearnings and aspirations of millions of downtrodden citizens of Kaduna State.

Members of the group staged a peaceful procession to the Kaduna offices of the EFCC and the ICPC, chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards with inscriptions such as, “Investigate and prosecute El-Rufai now,” “We won’t be silent until El-Rufai faces the law,” and “We stand with ICPC, EFCC.”

Other placards read, “Citizens demand that El-Rufai be investigated and prosecuted,” “Investigate without fear or favour,” and “Justice for El-Rufai’s victims.”

Speaking to journalists, the Chairman of the group, Comrade Victor Duniya, urged the security agencies to remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice in the alleged N432 billion fraud case involving the former governor, as well as allegations of attempts to compromise national security.

According to him, “The recent detention of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, first by the EFCC on February 16, 2026, and subsequently by the ICPC on February 18, 2026, marks a watershed moment in Nigeria’s fight against corruption. It is a pointer that no citizen, regardless of status, is above the law. We are here to declare that the voices of the downtrodden masses of Kaduna, who were systematically shortchanged by his administration, are finally being heard.”

He recalled that, “On June 5, 2024, the Kaduna State House of Assembly, through its Ad-hoc Committee report, indicted the former governor for the alleged diversion of N432 billion in public funds and money laundering.”

He added, “Following the indictment, our movement led a team of patriotic citizens in a protest to the Government House and submitted a petition calling for his immediate prosecution.

“Today, we are pleased to return to tell the EFCC and the ICPC: Kudos. You have acted on the yearnings and aspirations of millions of downtrodden citizens of Kaduna State by ensuring that the petitions brought before you were acted upon diligently.

“We are particularly encouraged that security agencies have opened a fresh investigation into the alleged forced disappearance of Dadiyata, a known critic of the administration of Malam Nasir El-Rufai. His remarks during an interview on Arise TV suggested that he had information that could help resolve the six-year-old mystery.”

He further stated, “As victims of insecurity allegedly caused by negligence during his tenure, and alleged attempts to compromise national security through the bugging of the phone lines of the National Security Adviser, we are aware that the DSS has filed charges against the former governor. We will continue to support the DSS and other relevant security agencies as they work to address security challenges in the country.

“We urge the ICPC, EFCC, and DSS to remain focused and not be distracted by minority voices and political loyalists who are attempting to undermine the process. Claims of health concerns are, in our view, attempts to generate sympathy and derail the course of justice. We are confident in the capacity of these agencies to ensure due process while safeguarding his rights.

“We believe that the delay in inviting El-Rufai allowed the anti-graft agencies to build a solid, evidence-based case for prosecution. The people of Kaduna State deserve full accountability and the recovery of any misappropriated public funds.”
