FG, Kaduna To Invest ₦40bn In Ginger Processing Hub — Senator Katung

The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung, has announced that the Federal Government, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Government, has finalised plans to establish a ₦40 billion ginger production and processing hub in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

In a statement issued on Monday, Katung described the project as a significant agricultural milestone for the district.

He noted that, upon completion, the facility is expected to become the largest ginger processing hub in Africa.

According to the lawmaker, the Kaduna State Government has committed ₦20 billion to the initiative, while the Federal Government will provide the remaining funds as part of efforts to promote agro-industrialisation and drive economic growth in Southern Kaduna.

Katung said the project would boost ginger production, minimise post-harvest losses, generate employment and stimulate economic activities in rural communities.

He added that the hub would enable farmers to transition from selling raw produce to engaging in value addition, processing and export.

The senator stated that the investment aligns with the economic diversification agenda of President Bola Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda and complements the development plans of Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.

He described the initiative as a product of strong collaboration between the federal and state governments.

Beyond agriculture, Katung highlighted other developments in the district, including the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, with plans for a College of Medicine in Manchok, and the upgrade of the Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan.

He also disclosed a five-year partnership with a United States-based humanitarian organisation, Project C.U.R.E., to supply medical equipment worth about ₦8 billion to general hospitals across the senatorial district.

While acknowledging ongoing challenges, the senator maintained that steady progress was being achieved through strategic engagement and cooperative governance.

He urged residents of Kaduna South to use the overlapping Lenten and Ramadan seasons to promote unity, peaceful coexistence and interfaith harmony.

Katung expressed gratitude to his constituents for their continued support and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the socio-economic development of Kaduna South Senatorial District.
