HGTV cancels Rehab Addict after host Nicole Curtis uses racial slur on set

HGTV has canceled its long-running home restoration series, Rehab Addict, after host Nicole Curtis was recorded using a racial slur during filming. Footage obtained by media outlets reportedly captured Curtis saying the N-word on set.

In a statement, HGTV said, “We were recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of Rehab Addict. Language like this is hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees, and does not align with HGTV’s values. Accordingly, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms. We remain committed to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and workplace.”

Curtis responded on Instagram, emphasizing her focus on family. “There is more to this, but my family comes first, and I need to be mom right now more than anything else. I will take the time to be transparent and honest,” she wrote. She also shared a statement to media outlets apologizing for her language, saying, “The word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone.”

Rehab Addict followed Curtis as she rescued historic homes in Detroit and Minneapolis, restoring them to their former glory. The show began on DIY Network before moving to HGTV in 2014. Although the first two episodes of season nine aired in July 2025, Curtis had previously announced she would delay the remaining episodes. They were scheduled to premiere on Feb. 11, but the series has now been removed from all HGTV platforms.
