NBA All-Star Game reaches 15-year viewership high after moving to NBC

NBC’s return to broadcasting the NBA All-Star Game drew its biggest audience in 15 years. Sunday’s event, featuring a USA vs. World format with a three-team round-robin, attracted 8.8 million viewers across NBC, Peacock, and Telemundo. That marks the largest audience since TNT’s 2011 broadcast, though Nielsen’s methodology has changed over the years, and prior games lacked streaming options.

The ratings represent an 86 percent increase over last year’s 2025 All-Star Game, which drew 4.72 million viewers across TNT, TBS, TruTV, and HBO Max. TNT had broadcast the game from 2003 through 2025 before a new media rights deal shifted coverage this season. The revamped format, praised for its competitiveness, featured two U.S. teams and one international squad playing 12-minute contests, with the U.S. teams facing off in the final. Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves was named MVP.

The strong viewership was likely aided by the game airing between NBCUniversal’s Winter Olympics blocks, which had a combined Sunday audience of 26.6 million. Through Sunday, the 2026 Winter Olympics are averaging 24.5 million viewers, with nine of the first ten days surpassing 20 million. Peacock has recorded 10.3 billion minutes of streaming so far, up 49 percent compared with all previous Winter Olympics combined.
