A Buffalo police officer was arrested and charged with murder after a woman’s body was found at a home in Sanborn on Saturday evening.

Lance L. Woods, 53, faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of 35-year-old Alexis Skoczylas. Authorities responded to a welfare check at a residence on Buffalo Street around 5:14 p.m., where they found Skoczylas deceased and pronounced her dead at the scene. Woods, an off-duty Buffalo police officer and school resource officer, was taken into custody after a coordinated effort between multiple law enforcement agencies and transported to Niagara County Jail for arraignment.

Buffalo Police Interim Commissioner Craig Macy said detectives worked closely with the Lewiston Police Department to locate Woods, including tracking the vehicle he was believed to be driving. The case has been referred to the New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation, which handles officer-involved deaths, while the Buffalo Police Internal Affairs Division reviews the timeline of events. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities plan to release further details as they become available.
