 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.   Peter Obi, ADC Team Reportedly Escapes Assassination Attempt in Benin, Edo State


The Obidient Movement has raised alarm over an alleged attack on Peter Obi and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City.


According to a message shares by the Obidient Movement’s Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, disclosed that armed individuals reportedly trailed Mr. Obi and the ADC delegation from the party’s secretariat as they moved to formally welcome Olumide Akpata into the ADC.


Dr. Tanko said the assailants followed the convoy to the residence of John Odigie-Oyegun, where gunshots were fired at the gate, resulting in the destruction of several vehicles.


He described the incident as resembling an assassination attempt and called for urgent investigation and improved security.
