Residents Protest As Bandits Abduct Seven In Kaduna Community

Residents of Danhonu II community in New Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, staged a protest on Monday following the abduction of seven people by suspected bandits.

The protesters marched to the Millennium City Divisional Police Headquarters, blocking the main road while chanting and calling for urgent security intervention.

The attack reportedly occurred around 11:30 pm on Sunday, when armed bandits invaded the community and kidnapped members of two families.

Those taken include Yahaya Yusuf, his wife Latifat Yusuf, and their sons Abdulgafar and Abdulqudus. Also abducted were Mrs. Abdulrazak Jimoh and two of her children, whose names are yet to be released.

Residents said the incident has increased fear in the community, bringing the total number of kidnappings there to 11 in recent months.

They claimed that non-indigenous residents are being targeted, raising concerns that informants may be assisting the criminals.

One protester, who spoke anonymously, said the attackers came in large numbers with sophisticated weapons.

“In the past month, more than four residents have been kidnapped here. Yesterday, at least 15 bandits with AK-47 rifles abducted five people and fled,” he said.

The Chairman of the Danhonu II Landlords Association and protest leader, Akoh Salifu, said the community could no longer live in peace due to repeated kidnappings.

Some youths had tried to pursue the kidnappers into the bush after Sunday’s raid but failed to catch them.

Salifu added, “We are here to formally register our grievances and demand urgent intervention to protect our community.”

Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Mansir Hassan confirmed the attack, explaining that police and military personnel responded but arrived late due to poor roads and difficult terrain, allowing the bandits to escape after an exchange of gunfire.

Hassan noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, has visited the community and met with stakeholders, assuring them that a police outpost may be established to improve security.
