 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  SECURITY OPERATIVES RESCUE 21 KIDNAP VICTIMS, ARREST FOUR SUSPECTS IN DANMUSA


The Katsina State Government has successfully rescued 21 kidnap victims comprising 9 Christians and 2 Muslims during a joint security operation in Dargaza Hills, Danmusa Local Government Area.


The intelligence-led operation comprising the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army (NA), alongside the Nigerian Police Force (NP) and Community Watch Corps, led to the arrest of four suspects currently undergoing investigation.


The rescued victims comprised 16 women, two men and three babies, were kidnapped from Gidan Sarkin Bayero Village in Musawa LGA and other locations.


More so, 19 of the rescued victims are Christians, while two are Muslims, this shows the indiscriminate nature of banditry and the government's commitment to protecting all citizens regardless of religion.


The operation targeted the enclave of notorious bandit leader Kamilu Chiroma, also known as Buzaru, in Dargaza Hills.


This successful rescue demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the synergy among our security agencies. 


Katsi State Government wishes to assure citizens that the suspects will face the full weight of the law upon completion of investigations.


It Further reiterate that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda's commitment to ending banditry and restoring lasting peace across Katsina State is nonnegotiable. 


The government commended the Security Agencies for the professionalism and courage displayed during the operation.
