2027: Sanga Group Calls For Rotation Of Jema’a/Sanga Rep Seat To Sanga LGA

A group, Sanga LGA Indigenes of Conscience, has called for the rotation of the Jema’a/Sanga Federal House of Representatives seat to Sanga Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The call was made during a press conference held on Thursday in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

Addressing the press conference, Secretary of the group, Mr. Gideon Audu, said the demand became necessary because Sanga Local Government Area had not produced a member of the House of Representatives for the constituency since the return to democratic rule in 1999.

He said records of representation in Kaduna South Senatorial District showed that while other constituencies with joint local government arrangements had rotated their seats among component councils, the Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency had remained dominated by Jema’a Local Government Area.

Audu described the development as a clear case of political marginalisation, arguing that for about 27 years, Sanga had remained without representation in the green chamber under the constituency arrangement.

He said the group’s position was not aimed at discrediting past representatives from Jema’a, but was instead a call for justice, fairness and inclusiveness in the political process.

According to him, zoning and rotation are established democratic principles meant to promote peaceful power-sharing, equity and balanced representation, especially in constituencies made up of different local government areas and interest groups.

He pointed to constituencies such as Zangon Kataf/Jaba and Kachia/Kagarko as examples where rotation had helped to sustain political harmony and inclusiveness over the years.

The group therefore called on political office holders, traditional rulers, political parties, development associations, the media and other stakeholders in the constituency to support the ceding of the seat to Sanga Local Government Area in the 2027 elections.

Audu also appealed to indigenes of Jema’a Local Government Area to voluntarily step aside from the contest for the House of Representatives seat in 2027 to allow Sanga produce the next representative.

He maintained that both Jema’a and Sanga are equal partners in the constituency and said allowing Sanga to take its turn would promote justice, strengthen unity and deepen democratic participation in the area.
