Britney Spears arrested in California on suspicion of DUI

Pop star Britney Spears was arrested in California on Wednesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to multiple reports.

Booking records from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office list Spears’ occupation simply as “celebrity.” The California Highway Patrol handled the arrest, and Spears was booked into the county jail Thursday morning. Her vehicle was towed, and she was released a few hours later with a citation and a court date set for May 4 at Ventura County Superior Court. The court’s public records have not yet detailed the specific charges against her.

Ventura County, located on the Pacific coast just north of Los Angeles, is known for its celebrity residents and proximity to the L.A. entertainment scene.

The DUI arrest comes shortly after Spears won a legal battle against an alleged stalker. She was recently granted a permanent restraining order against a 51-year-old Louisiana man, identified only as Donald, who she said had harassed her online since 2013. The man was arrested in 2025 for trespassing at her Southern California home. Deputies reported that he “exhibited odd behavior and made several incoherent comments” during the arrest. The court order prohibits him from coming within 100 yards of Spears and is in effect until 2030.
