  BANDITS STRIKE CHURCH IN KWARA: WORSHIPPERS ABDUCTED IN SHOCKING ATTACK Chaos erupted in Omugo community, Ifelodun LGA, Kwara State, as armed bandits stormed an ECWA Church during Sunday morning service, abducting worshippers and sending the congregation fleeing in terror. Sources report that at least seven people were kidnapped before security forces could intervene. In a swift and coordinated response, joint security operatives, including forest guards and local vigilantes, rescued three victims, though several remain in captivity. Bolanle Olukoju, Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, condemned the brazen attack, describing it as “cowardly and unacceptable,” and praised the rapid action of security agencies.  CP ORUTUGU CONDOLES VICTIMS, VISITS SCENE OF FIRE INCIDENT AT PLUMBING MARKET, HEADBRIDGE, ONITSHA


The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, commiserates with victims of the fire incident that occurred at the Plumbing Market, Headbridge, Onitsha, while also assessing the extent of damage at the scene.


During the visit today, 22nd March 2026, CP Orutugu expressed deep sympathy to those affected by the unfortunate incident and assured them of the Command’s support, particularly in ensuring the security of lives and property in the area to prevent further losses or exploitation by criminal elements.


The CP, while assessing the scene, noted that preliminary information suggests the fire may have been caused by heat generated from the storage of inflammable materials, particularly pipes, and possible non-adherence to fire safety regulations.


As investigations into the incident continue, the Commissioner of Police commended the swift response of emergency responders, including the Fire Service and other relevant agencies, whose timely intervention helped to contain the situation and prevent further escalation. He noted that no life was lost in the incident.


The CP was accompanied on the visit by the Divisional Police Officer, Headbridge Division, CSP Onyinaya Uche, alongside other relevant stakeholders in the market.


The Command urges traders and residents to adhere strictly to safety guidelines, especially in the storage and handling of inflammable materials, to avert future occurrences.
