 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  GOV. ALIA APPOINTS FIVE-MEMBER BOARD FOR BENUE TELEVISION 


The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved the appointment of members to the Board of the Benue Television Corporation (BTC).


In a statement issued by his Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev, the governor said the appointments take immediate effect.


Rev. Dr. Patrick Alumunku, OON, from Ushongo Local Government Area, will serve as Chairman of the Board. A media professional with a doctorate in Mass Communications, he has 12 years of experience with Vatican Radio and 21 years as Director of Communications at the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja. He currently serves as Executive Director of Catholic Television of Nigeria.


Dr. Thaddeus Hanmakyugh from Kwande LGA was appointed Secretary. He holds a doctorate in Film Production and Media Arts from the University of Abuja and previously served at the National Film Institute, Jos, where he retired.


Other members include Mrs. Jennifer Ejembi from Otukpo LGA, a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Television Authority, Ibadan; Dr. Barnabas Gbam from Logo LGA, former Rector of the NTA College, Jos; and Engr. Sunday Iji from Oju LGA, former Director of Engineering Services at Radio Benue, Makurdi.


Governor Alia charged the new board to leverage their professional experience to strengthen broadcasting standards in the state and promote Benue’s cultural heritage through quality programming.
