GROWING SAFETY CONCERNS AS ACCIDENTS PERSIST AT SANGO-OTA TOLL-GATE

‎By Sean Polotee

‎Residents and commuters along the busy toll-gate area of the Sango-Ota axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway have raised serious concerns following another road accident that occurred in the early hours of Friday, March 13, 2026.

‎The latest incident reportedly involved a prominent broadcaster who is a member of the Association of Nigerian Broadcasters, Lagos Chapter. Although details surrounding the accident are still emerging, witnesses say the crash adds to a growing list of disturbing incidents along the toll-gate corridor, which has become a major danger spot for motorists and pedestrians.

‎Residents disclosed that a similar accident occurred on the same stretch last Friday, heightening fears among commuters and business owners who use the route daily. The repeated occurrences have now become a serious concern for inhabitants of the Sango-Ota and its surrounding communities.

‎Many road users attribute the accidents to factors such as reckless driving, poor traffic control, bad roads and the heavy flow of vehicles moving between Lagos State and Ogun State along the busy expressway.

‎Community leaders and residents are now calling on the governments of Lagos State Government and Ogun State Government to urgently intervene by implementing stronger safety measures to prevent further tragedies.

‎They are urging authorities to consider improved traffic management, installation of speed control mechanisms, and better road monitoring around the toll-gate area to safeguard lives and property.

‎As investigations continue into the latest accident, concerned residents insist that swift action from both state governments is necessary to address the growing safety risks and restore confidence among commuters who rely on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway daily.
