 LAGOS HEALTH DISTRICT V INTENSIFIES CAMPAIGN ON TUBERCULOSIS AWARENESS


... Urges Residents To Embrace Free Screening, Treatment Services


The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District V, Dr. Oladapo Asiyanbi, has urged market men and women to take advantage of free Tuberculosis (TB) screening services, emphasising early detection as key to preventing the spread of the disease. 


He made this call during a TB outreach programme held at Boundary Market Roundabout in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area on Tuesday, 24th March 2026, as part of activities to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day with the theme: “Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Government Powered by People."


Describing Tuberculosis as a disease of public health concern, Dr. Asiyanbi encouraged residents to support the health initiatives of Mr. Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, whose efforts continue to strengthen healthcare delivery and disease control across the State.


He advised that anyone with a persistent cough lasting one to two weeks should visit the nearest Primary Health Care (PHC) facility for proper diagnosis. He noted that Tuberculosis is curable, with confirmed cases placed on a six-month treatment plan that guarantees recovery when adhered to.


Dr. Asiyanbi, reaffirmed its commitment to over 3.5 million residents in the health district, assuring that Tuberculosis (TB) testing and treatment remain 100% free. He emphasises that "TB is a bacterial, not spiritual disease" and urges residents to seek early testing and complete treatment.


He also called on youths to drive advocacy through social media and serve as mobilizers in community search efforts. With government action and community support, He stresses that TB has nowhere to hide, urging all to make “Yes, We Can” a reality in stopping TB.


The outreach, organised in collaboration with Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, offered free services including Tuberculosis Screening, Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, Malaria Test, specifically targeting market men and women to improve access to essential healthcare.


Also, speaking at the event, the First Lady of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Mrs. Bolanle Akindipe urged residents to come out in large numbers to benefit from the programme, noting that TB is spread through coughing and stressing the need for early testing and treatment.


Dr. Asiyanbi commends the continued support of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the First Lady for their commitment to a tuberculosis-free Lagos.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
