 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots.  LASG CAUTIONS RESIDENTS OF STATE-OWNED ESTATES ON ILLEGAL STRUCTURES, BREACH OF ALLOTMENT REGULATIONS


The Lagos State Ministry of Housing has issued a strong caution to residents of State-owned housing estates against the construction of illegal structures and violations of estate regulations, reiterating its commitment to restoring order, safety, and the original design integrity of government estates.


The advice was reiterated by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola, during a stakeholders’ meeting held recently at the Ministry’s Conference Room, Alausa Secretariat, between the Management of the Ministry and the Executives of the Ojokoro Estate Residents Association, Meiran.


Addressing the Executives, Engr. Toriola expressed serious concern over the deteriorating condition of Ojokoro Estate, describing the level of contraventions as alarming. He noted that the extent of unauthorised extensions and illegal developments only became fully evident during his recent visit to the Estate.


“The Ministry will not fold its arms and allow the distortion of the original master plan of any State-owned estate,” the Permanent Secretary stated. “All allottees were duly informed of the rules and regulations governing their properties before allocation, as clearly outlined in the Allottee’s Guide. Any breach of these provisions will attract appropriate sanctions.”


The meeting agreed that all marked infractions should be removed within the next four Months. Engr. Toriola further disclosed that the Ministry has obtained the necessary approval to remove illegal structures and commence rejuvenation efforts in line with the approved layout and planning standards. He emphasised that the objective is not punitive but corrective, aimed at restoring order, improving security, and enhancing the overall aesthetics of the Estate.


He also addressed claims circulating among some residents that approvals for certain contraventions were granted by the Lagos Building Investment Company (LBIC). These claims were categorically dismissed as false by the Assistant General Manager of LBIC, ESV. Tosin Olugbile, who clarified that no such approvals were issued.


In his response, the Chairman of the Ojokoro Estate Residents Association, Mr. Taiwo Akinde, expressed dissatisfaction with the proliferation of illegal structures within the Estate and affirmed the Association’s support for the Government’s restructuring initiative.


As part of continued stakeholder engagement, Directors alongside the Monitoring and Compliance team of the Ministry attended the Residents Association’s General Meeting held on 28th February, 2026. At the meeting, residents were sensitised on the Government’s position and the need for full compliance with estate regulations.


Restating the Government’s stance, Engr. Toriola warned that the preservation of State housing assets is a collective responsibility. “State-owned housing estates are planned communities developed to specific standards. Any alteration inconsistent with approved plans compromises infrastructure integrity, environmental balance, and public safety,” he stated.


Residents across all Lagos State Government Estates are therefore advised to strictly comply with established regulations, as the Government will not hesitate to enforce corrective measures to safeguard public assets and maintain the structural and environmental value of its estates.
