 TW- A Connecticut officer arrived on the scene to find a suspect fatally attacking his unconscious father with a baseball bat. The officer fired nearly 20 rounds, with most or all striking the son, before the son finally stopped the assault.  This sad incident took place in Meridian, Connecticut, on Sunday- July 19th.  On that date, officers from the Meridian Police Department responded to a local residence after receiving multiple calls from panicked and screaming neighbors and bystanders. The callers described a "severe domestic incident" taking place with an "armed aggressor" at approximately 10:00 a.m.  The first officer on the scene was Anthony Offiaeli. He witnessed 38-year-old Robert Lee Jenkins lll carrying out an absolutely savage attack on a man lying prone and unconscious on the ground. MAN ARRESTED IN NIGER STATE FOR SHOUTING “NO WATER, NO LIGHT” DURING GOVERNOR BAGO’S SALLAH VISIT. (PHOTO).

 The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 38-year-old electrician, Hamisu Abdullahi, for allegedly shouting “no water, no light” during Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s visit to the Emir of Suleja shortly after Eid-el-Fitr prayers on Friday.


According to police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect was detained on March 20, 2026, for suspected thuggery and attempting to disrupt government activities at the emir’s palace in Suleja. He was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna.


Abiodun told journalists that Abdullahi was later granted bail while investigations continue.


The suspect’s brother, Haruna Abdullahi, confirmed that Hamisu — a father of four residing in Unguwan Bayi, Suleja — was released on bail on Tuesday evening after spending five days in detention.


Eyewitness accounts indicated that Abdullahi shouted the phrase expressing frustration over the lack of basic amenities while the governor was at the palace. Unverified claims suggested the arrest was carried out on the direct orders of Governor Bago, though the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, said he was not aware of the incident when contacted.


The development has sparked concerns about freedom of expression in the state.


In a related development, the International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria on Monday urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to caution Governor Bago against actions that could impede press freedom.


In a statement jointly signed by its Deputy President Fidelis Mbah and Legal Adviser Tobi Soniyi, the organisation said certain actions by the governor and some officials under him have infringed on the rights of journalists and media organisations to carry out their duties.
