MYSTERY FIRE RAZES HOUSE, DESTROYS N2M YAM BARNS IN EBONYI COMMUNITY

There was palpable grief in Omege Noyo Alike community, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, as a strange fire outbreak razed a residential building and destroyed yam barns and other valuables estimated at over N2 million.

The victims, Mr. Michael Mbam and Mr. Jonathan Mbam, said the incident occurred while they were away from home. According to them, neighbours alerted them after noticing thick smoke rising from their compound.

By the time they arrived, the inferno had already consumed their yam barns and other goods, leaving them devastated.

The brothers explained that the yam barns, valued at over N2 million each, represented their major source of livelihood. They described the incident as a heavy setback capable of plunging their families into hardship.

They appealed to the Ebonyi State Government and public-spirited individuals for assistance, calling particularly on Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to come to their aid.

A neighbour, Mr. Boniface Nome, who confirmed the incident, described it as unfortunate and painful. He urged stakeholders in Ikwo and relevant authorities to rally support for the affected families to enable them recover from the loss.

Other sympathisers who gathered at the scene expressed gratitude that no life was lost in the fire but joined in the appeal for assistance to cushion the impact of the disaster.

As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained. There was also no official statement from relevant authorities regarding the source of the outbreak.

The incident has sparked concern among residents, who are calling for improved fire safety awareness in the area to prevent future occurrences.
