 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Norwegian police probe explosion outside US embassy in Oslo 

Police in Norway are investigating an explosion that occurred early Sunday outside the U.S. Embassy in Oslo. No one was injured in the blast, which was reported around 1 a.m. after witnesses heard a “loud bang,” according to Oslo police.

Authorities said the explosion was caused by an incendiary device, likely placed in a backpack, that detonated near the entrance to the embassy’s Consular Affairs office. The blast caused damage to the embassy’s entrance, but no arrests have been made. Oslo police are exploring multiple possibilities for the motive and are actively searching for those responsible. Witnesses reported thick smoke on the street following the explosion. Norway’s police security service deployed additional personnel, though the national terror threat level remains unchanged. Justice Minister Astri Aas-Hansen called the incident “unacceptable” and confirmed authorities are dedicating significant resources to the investigation while ensuring the public is not at risk.
