POP SUPERSTAR ROBYN REVEALS 'HARDCORE' IVF JOURNEY AS SINGLE MOM IN HER 40S AND ADMITS SHE 'FELT LIKE A FAILURE'. (PHOTO).

Pop superstar Robyn reveals 'hardcore' IVF journey as single mom in her 40s and admits she 'felt like a failure'

Robyn recently shared her experience of becoming a single mother in her 40s through in vitro fertilization (IVF), describing the process as both physically and emotionally demanding.

The 46-year-old Swedish pop star, whose full name is Robin Miriam Carlsson, opened up about navigating parenthood after a breakup in 2020 and confronting societal expectations of single mothers in an interview with The Guardian.

She welcomed her son Tyko in July 2023 and reflected on the challenges of raising a child alone.

Robyn candidly described the IVF process as “pretty hardcore” and acknowledged the uncertainty she felt beginning the procedure in her early 40s.

“I was older. I didn’t know if it was going to work. I did a few rounds. It was a f***ing roller coaster,” she said, noting how the experience forced her to contemplate her identity as a parent and as an individual.

Robyn recalled freezing her eggs at 34 and the existential questions she faced when she decided to pursue IVF on her own. She admitted initially feeling like a failure because she had imagined having a child with a partner and believed it would happen sooner. “I had seen myself having a kid in a stable relationship. I was sad to let go of that. It felt like a failure,” she said.

After her breakup, she decided to move forward independently, citing concerns about having children in an unstable relationship. “The idea of having children in the relationships I was in felt very risky. Every single thing the other person does becomes so important,” she explained. “I just felt that was scarier than waiting.”

Robyn emphasized that while IVF is a privilege, it remains a strenuous and taxing journey.

“It’s definitely a challenge, physically and psychologically. But the fact that it’s even possible is something to be grateful for. It costs money, and many people don’t have this option,” she said.

She also reflected on the realities of single parenthood, describing it as “very, very taxing,” while affirming that her desire to be a parent outweighed the challenges.

“You can question how you do it and who you do it with, but you can’t question the actual need,” Robyn said.
