Rock Icon Ross ‘The Boss’ Friedman Dies After ALS Battle

Ross 'The Boss' Friedman has di!d at the age of 72, following a battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

The news was shared on his official Instagram page on Friday, March 27, confirming that the Bronx-born musician passed away just weeks after revealing his diagnosis.

In the announcement, his family described him as a legendary guitarist and a devoted father whose music connected deeply with fans across the world.

They noted that his guitar was central to his life, calling it his “life’s breath,” and reflected on how the illness gradually took that away from him.

The message also expressed gratitude for the support he received, especially in his final months.

Friedman had publicly spoken about his condition in February, explaining that it followed a period of minor strokes and increasing weakness in his hands and legs.

At the time, he admitted the uncertainty ahead was difficult, particularly as it affected his ability to play.

His career stretched across decades, beginning as a founding member of The Dictators in 1973 alongside Andy Shernoff and Scott Kempner.

He later joined Manowar in 1980, contributing to the band’s rise before departing in 1989.

Beyond those groups, Friedman remained active in music, performing with bands such as Death Dealer, Shakin’ Street, The Spinatras, and The Brain Surgeons. In 2009, he launched the Ross The Boss Band, continuing to tour and record.
