Scott Mills Fired from BBC Radio 2 Over Personal Conduct Allegations

Scott Mills has stepped away from the BBC breakfast show, bringing his long run with the broadcaster to an unexpected close.

The presenter, who had been hosting the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show since January 2025, is no longer contracted to work with the BBC, according to a statement released on March 30.

In its response, the broadcaster kept the message brief, saying it does not comment on matters involving individuals but confirming that Mills is no longer with the company.

The sudden development appears to have caught many inside the organisation off guard. In a note sent to staff, director of music Lorna Clarke acknowledged the shock surrounding the news.

“I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock,” she wrote, adding that many members of staff had worked with Mills over the years across Radio 1, 5 Live, Radio 2, and television.

She also noted that more information about the future of the breakfast show would be shared when possible, while making it clear that no further details would be given immediately.

Reports linked Mills’ departure to allegations concerning personal conduct, though no specific explanation was provided in the internal communication.

The timing has also drawn attention, as Mills’ last appearance on air was on March 24, when he ended the breakfast show by telling listeners, “Back tomorrow.”

The following morning, however, Gary Davies opened the programme instead, telling listeners he was stepping in for the host.

As the news became public on March 30, fellow Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine addressed the development during his lunchtime show, saying he was “taken aback by the story” and had no further information.

Mills had been with the BBC for more than 20 years, having first built his profile on Radio 1 before moving to the flagship Radio 2 breakfast slot.

He married his husband, Samuel Vaughan, in 2024.
