Tyler Perry Gives $250K in Gift Cards to TSA Officers Working Without Pay at Atlanta Airport

Tyler Perry showed support for TSA employees at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport during the ongoing partial government shutdown.

On Friday, March 27, the 56-year-old director gifted $1,000 each to 250 officers working at the busy Atlanta hub.

The gesture came amid difficult conditions, as TSA employees have been working without pay since the shutdown began on February 14.

Some officers have faced extreme hardships, including sleeping in their cars or selling plasma, while over 480 employees have resigned due to financial strain.

Aaron Barker, president of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 554, which represents TSA officers in Georgia, confirmed that Perry’s gift followed the proper legal guidelines for giving federal employees gift cards. Barker said, “It went through the legal process through TSA.”

The shutdown has led to nearly $1 billion in missed paychecks for TSA staff and high absence rates at major airports, creating long security lines and delays.

While the U.S. Senate approved a measure on March 27 to fund much of the Department of Homeland Security, including TSA, the House later rejected the proposal.

Amid the ongoing disruption, former President Trump announced on March 26 that he would sign an executive order to pay TSA officers, instructing newly sworn-in Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin to “immediately pay our TSA Agents in order to address this Emergency Situation.”

Perry’s contribution offered a timely boost to officers navigating the challenging period, demonstrating both generosity and recognition of the essential work TSA staff continue to provide.
